Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg, known as Gutenberg, born around 1400 in Mainz in the Holy Roman Empire and died on February 3, 1468 in his hometown, was a German printer whose invention of movable metal type was decisive in the dissemination of texts and knowledge.
Between 1434 and 1444, the Gutenberg family settled in Strasbourg.\u00a0<\/p>

Gutenberg trained in particular in chasing and the mastery of alloys, which would form the basis of his future profession, enabling him to design resistant and infinitely reproducible printing characters. We find its trace in the registers of the city until 1446.<\/p>

Returning to Mainz in 1448, he continued the work begun in Strasbourg and developed his invention:
the technique of producing interchangeable and equal metal type using cut steel stamps, copper dies and a casting instrument, hand press, printing ink (at the time , the ink used by the copyists was water-based).<\/p>

The Bible will be the first book printed in 180 copies on Gutenberg\u2019s press.<\/p>\n
