\nJean-Jacques WALTZ (1873-1951) known as Hansi or Uncle Hansi, was born on February 23, 1873 in Colmar in Alsace, then German since 1871. He grew up in Colmar in the culture of history and art, particularly Alsatian, transmitted by his father, the curator of the Unterlinden museum. He left Alsace in 1894 to train as an industrial designer in Lyon, where he also attended the school of fine arts. Back in Alsace, he practiced this profession in Cernay then in Logelbach.
\nIt is at the same time that Jean-Jacques WALTZ draws the first of his postcards, where Alsatian villages and anti-German caricatures merge, which he will sign under the pseudonym of Hansi, resulting from the contraction of Hans and of Iakob (date of the first map signed Hansi)
\nIn 1939, Hansi, known as being strongly anti-Germanic, was forced into exile in France and then in Switzerland. During the war, he produced posters for the French army.
\nAfter the war, he returned to end his days in Colmar, he died June 10, 1951 leaving behind many works.
